Where to Watch Fireworks in Palm Springs

Palm Springs won’t offer all the drama this Fourth of July that Washington DC will, but there’s plenty of great venues in Palm Springs plus other Desert Cities to enjoy the celebratory fireworks. We’re pretty much guaranteed to have clear skies…and warm temps, so get out and enjoy!

PALM SPRINGS

Palm Springs Power Baseball Stadium: Kick off the evening watching some great local baseball. The Palm Springs Power play the PSCL All-Stars at 6p. Stay afterwards to watch the July 4th fireworks show, which is always a fun local event. Tickets available HERE.

Rooftop from the Kimpton Rowan Hotel in downtown Palm Springs: Enviable rooftop views. Live music and drink specials. Tickets are $25

Casual, pull-off-the-road locations throughout Palm Springs: Palm Springs is small enough that it’s easy to park the car or bike and watch the fireworks from a grassy spot. One popular location is along Mesquite Ave between Sunrise and Farrell. Another popular spot is along the Tahquitz wash (river) along South Riverside Dr. Remember, people live in these neighborhoods, so be mindful of their space and homes.

RANCHO MIRAGE

Agua Caliente Resort Casino and Spa: Similar to Fantasy Springs, including synchronized music with The Eagle 106.9

PALM DESERT

Civic Center Park: Bring blankets or chairs to enjoy a fireworks show in the park. Live music before the fireworks celebration.

Eight Best Food & Drink Patios in Palm Springs

This time of year when someone asks us how we can stand the heat, we locals generally respond, “but it’s a dry heat”. And, it’s true…generally.

We always tell clients who are worried about living with the hot summer temperatures that the evenings are glorious. And, we mean it wholeheartedly. For many of us who make Palm Springs home, or make regular summer visits, the next best thing to summer night swims is enjoying food and drinks with friends and loved ones on the patio under starry skies.

We’re lucky. We enjoy al fresco dining in Southern California year around, but there’s something special and intoxicating about a casual dinner and drinks on the patio when the air remains hot long after the sun has dropped behind the mountain.

There’s lots of outdoor dining options in Palm Springs + other Desert Cities, but here’s a few of our favorite (or recommended) patios that we enjoy year around, but especially so on summer evenings.

Happy Pride everyone! Gay Pride 2019 marks fifty years since the birth of the gay rights movement in this country after the riots at the Stonewall Inn in NYC’s Greenwich Village.

Thanks to the bravery and dignity of those who fought over the decades for the rights and freedoms we’ve gained, we celebrate today with openness and pride!

The first "Pop Up Palm Springs" takes place April 16th, 2019

April is a jam-packed month for events in Palm Springs, and the Coachella Valley. The Coachella Music Festival is the biggest, and most well-known, and this year it’s held over the 13th/14th and 20th/21st weekends.

Some of us locals get overwhelmed with the crowds (on the roads, in restaurants, etc etc), and we just “shut down” and stay home, or maybe leave town. For me personally, the Coachella weekends are a favorite time in Palm Springs. I’ll save why for another article.

The “Pop Up” event’s goal is to get us local (and probably visitors too!) out to downtown/uptown businesses during the week between Coachella. Visit their site, PopUpPalmSprings to see a list of merchants, restaurants, etc participating, and please, get out and support our local downtown businesses.

Can Staging Your Palm Springs Home Pay Off When You Sell?

One of my main goals as a realtor is to represent my clients in a way that obtains the best results for them.

For clients who hire me to sell their home, that often means advising them how to make their home “show ready”, to garner the most interest from buyers. “Show ready” homes generally get the best offers.

So, what does “Show ready” mean? An empty house, I would argue, is definitely not show ready, and will often not fetch the highest and best offer (other than major fixers). If your home is empty, the cost of staging could very well be worth the investment. Many people have a hard time envisioning where furniture goes, or how the house “lives” and flows. If they can’t “feel” it, they can’t see themselves living in the house. A good stager will furnish and decorate the home in a fashion that will allow people to see (or even dream about) themselves living in the home. Certain decorations, or how they’re placed will trigger an emotion, perhaps even sub conscientiously. Emotion, whether we admit it or not, often influences the decisions around a purchase.

On the flip side, a house that is furnished can also present issues. Perhaps there’s too much furniture, or it’s not ideally placed for the space. I had a listing years ago that was a vacation rental, which, as you may know, is extremely common in Palm Springs. The house was “fun”, furnished in a casual fashion, which included a pool table in the dining room. I can’t tell you how many folks through the open houses couldn’t see there was a dining room. I heard many conversations, “where do we put the dining room table?”. There was a happy ending for the sellers (and the buyers), but many couldn’t see what the home truly offered. Our job, especially in today’s market, is to appeal to the audience…to get the best price.

This article from Inman is a good one covering the basics of “staging”, but there’s often a lot more to it, and sometimes a professional really is in order to obtain the best results.

I pride myself, however, on the advice and work I provide to my clients in helping to get their homes prepped for market. For me, it’s one of the funnest and rewarding parts of representing a client selling their home, all done with the goal of getting the best for them.

What's in Store for the Palm Springs Real Estate Market in 2019?

I read lots of interesting articles at Inman, a site devoted to everything “real estate”.

Today, there’s a good one about what’s possibly in store for the market in 2019. The consensus, at least among those who voice their opinions, is that the real estate market will be flat in 2019.

While our market is still driven in a large part by what’s happening along the Pacific Coast and some large northern markets (New York City, Chicago, etc), I don’t see us quite so dependent on those markets as we were when we suffered disproportionately from the great 2008 crash.

As you probably know, the coastal markets along the west coast have been insanely crazy the last several years. We’ve seen unprecedented price gains in LA, San Diego, The Bay Area, and Seattle. All markets that do affect our local prices. My friends and former colleagues in the Bay Area tell me they’re seeing a definite shift in the market there. Homes are staying on the market longer, and, gasp, they’re even experiencing price reductions!

How could a slowing market along the coast affect our sales in the desert? Again, even though we’re likely less dependent on those markets than we once were, I think we’ll still see the affects. Fewer people may be willing to buy a second home, or they may decide to hold off on buying their retirement home until closer to their retirement. Those who already own in the desert may decide to hold off on “upsizing” because of higher interest rates, and the new tax laws passed by republicans in DC limiting mortgage interest and property tax deductions. It may even affect those wanting to “downsize”, depending on the price points.

There will certainly be folks who have plenty of equity in their coastal homes and decide to make the move regardless of a flattening market. A flattening market is certainly better than a declining market…for sellers. While it may be too late in this cycle to “strike while the iron is hot”, the iron isn’t unplugged!

My hunch is that “good” Palm Springs properties that are marketed well (show nicely, priced well, and with good, positive exposure) will continue to sell for a good price (top dollar) and in a desirable amount of time.
